SECRETARY ALBERTO G. ROMULO
Foreign Affairs Secretary
Alberto G. Romulo took over the reins of leadership in the Department of
Foreign Affairs on 24 August 2004.
Secretary Romulo, through
hard work, discipline, dedication, and deep concern for every Filipino, has
already carved for himself his own special niche in the Philippine politics
not only as an economic manager but as a respected statesman as well.
He first joined government
service as Secretary of Budget and Management (1986-1987) then as Secretary
of Finance (2001) and finally as Executive Secretary (2001-2004) under
President Arroyo.
He was also Senate Majority
Leader for five years (1992-1996) and was chosen to chair the senate
committee on banks, currency and financial institutions. During his tenure
as a Senator, he authored and sponsored major legislations like the New
Central Bank Law, Rural Bank Act, Philippine Veterans Act, Salary
Standardization Law, Tax Exemption on Christmas Bonus, Early Retirement Act
and many more, all aimed at uplifting the lives of every Filipino.
Secretary Romulo holds a
Bachelor of Science in Commerce from the De La Salle University and a
Bachelor of Laws from the Unibersidad de Madrid in Spain.
