14 December 2009: The Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai would like to inform the members of the Filipino Community in Shanghai, Anhui, Hubei, Jiangsu and Zhejiang,  that if they are planning to travel to the Philippines on holiday, they may apply for a Machine Readable Passport (MRP) at the POEA (Passport Satellite Office) in Mandaluyong City.

They may also apply at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Passport Office located at the ASEANA Business Park or in any of the 17 DFA Regional Consular Offices whenever they are in the Philippines – Bacolod City, Baguio City, Butuan City, Cagayan de Oro City, Cotabato City, Davao City, General Santos City, Iloilo City, Legaspi City, Lucena City, Palawan City, San Fernando-La Union, San Fernando-Pampanga, Tacloban City, Tuguegarao City and Zamboanga City..  

The regular processing will take 14 working days and expedited processing will take 7 working days.  

Schedule an Appointment for your Passport Application

To avoid long queues in applying for a passport at the DFA Passport Office in Manila, schedule an appointment by accessing the DFA website at www.dfa.gov.ph and click the Consular Services tab, type your complete name, date and place of birth, and if applicable, our old passport number.  Once you have an appintment, it will take you less than an hour to process your passport at the designated counteres and encoding machines.

ePassport

Aside from the Machine Readable Passport (MRP) the new ePassport may also be availed but only in Manila. The ePassport is a highly secure enhanced Machine Readable Passport that reduces identity theft by storing the biometrics and signature of the passport holder and by recording his thumbmarks. 

Green Passport is Valid until Date of Expiry

If you are a holder of the manual or Green Passport, you can still use your passport for travel abroad.  All manual or Green Passport issued before 01 April 2010 will remain valid until the stated date of expiry and are acceptable for use abroad.

Passport Application at the Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai

The Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai would also like to remind the community that MRP Passport applications filed at the Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai requires six (6) weeks processing time since the passports are processed in Manila.
