The Philippines
participated in the SIAL China 2008 held in Shanghai from 14 to 16 May
2008. Organized by the Department of Agriculture, the Philippine
pavilion showcased products such as banana chips, dried and fresh fruits,
fruit juices and purees, teas, and coconut products from eight local
companies. The
SIAL China 2008 is China's largest and leading international
exhibition for the food and beverage trade and is the meeting point for
international buyers and sellers. SIAL China 2008 is an
excellent opportunity to showcase brands from around the world to the most
explosive retail market available.
The trade show attracted key decision makers from all of the major grocery
chains, as well as other Food & Beverage Channels.
The Philippine participants said that
SIAL China 2008 generated some excellent prospects and that there were
international inquiries and good traffic to the Philippine booth.
Banana
chips were a particular hit about the international buyers.
The
Philippine Consulate General noted that the emergence of a huge middle class
in China with buying power and a taste for premium products creates a
tremendous opportunity for Philippine companies to sell to the Chinese
market. In a market as large as China, it is important to have a strategy
before entering the market and participating in SIAL China 2008 is a step in
the right direction.
