1st SHANGHAI PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE DAY COMMITTEE ESTABLISHED

04 April 2008 - Philippine Consul General to Shanghai Maria Rowena Mendoza Sanchez reported the creation of the Shanghai Philippine Independence Day Committee (SPIDCom) composed of Filipino community leaders in Shanghai on 9 March.  Ms. Michelle Teope Shen and Mr. Danni Lim were voted as the Chairman and Co-Chairman, respectively, of the newly organized committee. The main objective of the committee is the meaningful celebration of the 110th anniversary of Philippine Independence and to strengthen cooperation within the Filipino community in Shanghai.  It was decided that the celebration will be held outdoors to accommodate a large number of attendees.

Different sub committees were created and chairmen assigned, including Mr. Philip Lao and Mr. Jun Dimaano for Program, Mr. Leo Quicho for  Finance & Budget, Ms. Lemie Yee for Food & Prizes, Ms. Gladys Cong for Transportation, Mr. Ferdie Dizon for Facilities and Security and Ms. Ros Juan for Marketing and Promotions. “Kasalo, Kasali, Kasayahan sa Pagdiwang ng Kalayaan” was selected as the event’s theme from among numerous entries received by the committee under its “Name a Theme Contest.” END
