BULACAN BUSINESS CHAMBER SIGN COOPERATION AGREEMENT WITH ZHEJIANG COUNTERPART
________________________________________________________________________________

04 April 2008 - The Bulacan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Zhejiang Sub-Council & China Chamber of International Commerce Zhejiang Chamber of Commerce (CCPIT Zhejiang-Sub Council and CCIC ZCC) signed a Cooperation Agreement on 28 March in Hangzhou City, Zhejiang Province, China.

BCCI President Teofilo Rivera, Jr. and CCPIT Zhejiang Sub-Council Vice Chairman Tie Jianshe signed the agreement with Philippine Consul General to Shanghai Maria Rowena Mendoza Sanchez and other members of the two chambers as witnesses.

The Cooperation Agreement aims to encourage the development of Zhejiang and Bulacan trade relations through the exchanges of trade and investment delegations, study groups, and the promotion of opportunities for trade and investment to members of the chambers.

This event was one of the highlights of the Philippine Trade, Investment and Tourism Forum organized by the Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai and the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade Zhejiang Sub-Council held on the same day. The forum is part of the Consulate’s on-going efforts to promote the Philippines as a viable travel, business and investment destination for Chinese businessmen.

Zhejiang is the sister-province of Bulacan. The province is home to about 50,000,000 people and boasts of a Gross Domestic Product of US$221.73 billion in 2007. People living in Zhejiang have a per capita GDP of over US$5,000. Six cities of Zhejiang – Hangzhou, Ningbo, Jiaxing, Huzhou, Shaoxing and Zhoushan are part of the Yangtze River Delta metropolitan region, the new economic growth hub which includes Shanghai. Among the top 500 multinational companies with regional headquarters in China, 202 can be found in Zhejiang. Private companies are also the primary force in pushing Zhejiang’s “Going Global” strategy.

Consul General Sanchez said that the “Going Global” strategy of the Chinese government towards its Chinese companies and the varied business opportunities present in the Philippines are clear opportunities that both Chinese and Philippine businessmen should not pass up. Zhejiang, she says, is an economic powerhouse with businessmen from the province as one of the main sources of investment or capital for Shanghai.  Consul General Sanchez added that the province can be a major source of tourists to the Philippines as well as business partners.
