INVITES hubei officials and BUSINESSMEN TO INVEST IN THE PHILIPPINES

Philippine Consul General to Shanghai Maria Rowena Mendoza Sanchez led a delegation composed of Consul Aileen Mendiola-Rau, Trade Assistant Hans Ding, Liwayway (China) Co. Ltd. President Larry Chan, Dai-ichi Electronics Shanghai Co. Ltd. President Pablo Tobiano, Mr. Ling Well Tan, Mr. Robert Dy and Liwayway (China) Co. Ltd. Li Pei Ming to visit Hubei Province recently and was warmly met by Vice Governor Li Chunming and Wuhan City Vice Mayor Sun Ya.

 

In her official talks with the officials of Hubei Province and Wuhan City, Consul General Sanchez reiterated the President’s invitation to invest in the Philippines  in many areas offering opportunities for Chinese entrepreneurs. Consul General Sanchez and Vice Governor Li agreed that the following areas of cooperation can be pursued: tourism, agriculture and food processing, tobacco processing and mining.

 

Both sides also agreed that there should be increased contacts and cooperation between Hubei and the Philippines and expressed their hope that business and tourism exchanges between the Philippines and Hubei will become more frequent.

 

During the visit, officials of Wuhan City told Consul General Sanchez that they welcome the expansion of cooperation in various fields and the strengthening of trade relations between the two sides and that Wuhan City is interested to establish sister-city relations with a Philippine city.   A six-member delegation from Wuhan City lead by a vice mayor will be visiting the Philippines in June to look at possible areas of cooperation.

 

Consul General Sanchez also met with Mayor Li Tao of Hong An Town.  Hong An is host to Liwayway (China) Co. Ltd’s investment in Hubei Province.

 

Aside from the official meetings, the delegation visited the Dongfeng Automobile Group, one of the leading manufacturers of buses and light trucks in China.  During the visit, Consul General Sanchez enjoined Dongfeng to establish its presence in the Philippines.  Dongfeng officials indicated their desire to enter the Philippine automotive market.

 

During the visit to Hubei Province, the delegation also participated in the 4th Central China Travel Expo, the Central China Business Summit and the 3rd Expo Central China which were held in Wuhan from 24-28 April.  Also participating in the 3rd Expo Central China was a delegation from Davao Oriental headed by Governor Corazon Malanyaon.
