On 24 June 2008, the
Filipino Community in cooperation with the Philippine Consulate General in
Shanghai donated the amount of RMB 38,000.00 to the Shanghai Red Cross
Society for the earthquake victims of Sichuan Province.
The charity drive
began a day after the fatal earthquake and culminated during the 1st
Philippines National Day Picnic on 15 June 2008.
Madame Xi Lijuan,
President of the Shanghai Red Cross was overwhelmed by the donation and
thanked the community for its generosity. “The Philippines suffers a lot
from natural disasters and yet the Philippine Community in Shanghai went out
of your way to show your support to us,” Madame Xi said.
For her part, Consul
General Sanchez said that the donation is just a small way to show the
community’s appreciation to China. Consul General Sanchez said that
whenever a natural calamity occurs in the Philippines, China is always one
of the first to show its kindness and generosity.
In attendance
