During a
recent visit to Shanghai, Vice President Noli De Castro visited the Shanghai
World Expo 2010 site and received a briefing by Director-General Hong Hao of
the Shanghai World Expo Coordination Bureau on the work of Shanghai to
relocate the residents of the World Expo site, preparations for the conduct
of the World Expo in 2010 as well as the plans for its use after 2010.
Organizers of the Shanghai World Expo 2010 say that they expect about 70
million visitors from 01 May to 31 October 2010 and thus far, over 186
countries have signed up to join the Expo, including the Philippines.
Citing
the importance of the Expo in promoting trade, tourism and investment, the
Vice President noted that the Philippine participation in the Expo is a good
vehicle to promote the country.
The
Philippines is participating in the six-month World Expo in Shanghai with a
2,000 square meter pavilion. The theme of the Philippine Pavilion in the
2010 Expo is “Performing Cities”. END
