________________________________________________________________________________

18 June 2008 - Former President Fidel V. Ramos was in Ningbo City from 07 to 10 June 2008 to attend the Boao Forum for Asia’s international forum on Modern Logistics and Free Port. FVR was joined by a Philippine delegation which included EDEX/Airfreight 2100 Chair Alberto Lina, former Congressman and Dagupan City Mayor Benjamin Lim, R-II Builders Group Chair Reghis Romero II and Jose Paolo Delgado of Delbros.

The forum was sponsored by the Boao Forum for Asia, the United Nations Development Programme and the Provincial Government of Zhejiang. The forum focused on developments in “modern logistics” which is considered as the key to balance and efficiency in cross-border production and movement of goods in the globalized economy. The forum also looked into new approaches to and models of port management which veer away from the traditional bonded zone concept to the more efficient and dynamic free trade areas (FTAs).

Ningbo, a major city in northeastern Zhejiang Province is one China’s oldest cities, covering an area of 9,365 square kilometers with a total coastline of 1,562 kilometers.  It is a leading port and economic hub which hosts more than 6,800 foreign enterprises.  The city’s per capital output of $8,026 is more than three times the national average.  The port of Ningbo is one of the world’s busiest, ranked 4th in the world in terms of cargo tonnage.  Ningbo is now connected to Shanghai by the Hangzhou Bay Bridge, considered the longest sea-crossing bridge in the world, which was opened only last 01 May 2008.
