16 June 2009:  A most sumptuous feast of Philippine cuisine at the Eton Hotel Shanghai was launched on 12 June 2009 as part of the 111th Anniversary of Philippine Independence.  The event dubbed “ Philippine Food Festival“ was organized by The Eton Hotel Shanghai in cooperation with the Philippine Consulate General and the Philippine Airlines.

The Philippine Food Festival will run until the 21st of June 2009 at the Eton Café and promises a delectable daily buffet lunch and dinner for the duration of the food festival featuring the diverse tastes of Philippine cuisine from some of the country’s 7,107 islands.

Filipino master chefs Edwin Agon and Rudy Velasco flew from the Philippines especially for the food festival. The wide array of dishes they will prepare emphasize the diverse interplay of gastronomic influences and cooking traditions that have fused together to give rise to Philippine cuisine.  Not many know that Philippine cuisine traces its roots to Malay, Chinese and Spanish cookery.

The daily lunch and dinner buffet features mouthwatering Philippine dishes and desserts.  All ingredients are manufactured by Filipino food makers and flown in fresh from the Philippine shores.

More than introducing Philippine cuisine to the local market, the food festival also shows creative ways of integrating Philippine food and ingredients to Chinese cuisine.

The officers and staff of the Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai were joined by members of the Consular Corps in Shanghai and members of the Chinese media for the opening of the food festival.  END
