15 December 2009: A 17-member delegation from the Central Luzon Growth Corridor Foundation, Inc. (CLGCFI) visited Chongqing, Shanghai and Nanjing from 6-11 December 2009 to do a series of Investment Forums aimed at promoting Central Luzon to Chinese businessmen in these cities.  The visit was organized in cooperation with the Philippine Consulates General in Chongqing and Shanghai and the Philippine Trade and Investment Center, Shanghai and Region 3 of the Department of Trade and Industry.

The CLGCFI delegation was headed by Gov. Bellaflor Angara-Castillo of Aurora Province and composed of Gov. Amor Deloso of Zambales, Presidential Assistant for Central Luzon Lorelie Fajardo and representatives from LGUs of Nueva Ecija, Bulacan, Aurora, Region 3-DTI and the private sector.

In Chongqing, the CLGCFI delegation met with Vice Mayor Ma Zhengqi and signed a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Chongqing Government, the first of its kind.  This is an important first step in establishing ties between the city and the CLGCFI.  The Memorandum called for more frequent communication and exchanges between the two sides and for the future expansion of relations in the field of culture, education and tourism.

In Shanghai, Municipal Commission of Commerce Vice Chairwoman Jian Heping keynoted the Investment Forum which was attended by Chinese businessmen interested in investing in infrastructure, agriculture, environment and tourism related projects.  There were also some interest in trading of aquatic and agricultural products. Vice Chairwoman Jian Heping expressed hope that the two sides will expand cooperation for mutual benefit and promote the common growth with the joint endeavors of governments, business chambers, and entrepreneurs and that Year 2010 will be a progressive year of Sino-Philippine friendship.

In Nanjing, the delegation met with Jiangsu Provincial Vice Governor Zhang Weiguo.  It was agreed that a cooperation agreement could also be forged to further enhance relation between the Philippines and China. The Investment Forum was attended by businessmen coming from Jiangsu and Anhui provinces.  During the forum, many of the Chinese participants indicated their interest to visit the Philippines during the first quarter of 2010 to look into the projects that were being promoted during the event.

Consul General Maria Rowena Mendoza Sanchez noted that the CLGCFI Investment Mission of CLGCFI could not have been made possible without the assistance and partnership of the Chongqing, Shanghai and Jiangsu municipal governments and their respective business chambers who have been actively helping the Philippine Consulates in Chongqing and Shanghai to promote trade and investment relations between the Philippines and China.
