FILIPINOS IN SHANGHAI LEND A HAND FOR TYPHOON VICTIMS FOR CHRISTMAS, RAISE OVER PHP 1 M

14 December 2009.  The Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai reported that Filipinos in  Shanghai and surrounding cities organized several fund-raising events for the benefit of typhoon victims just in time for Christmas.

 

Filipino young professionals based in Shanghai, and DJ Mick( Martinez),  organized “Dance for A Cause” which generated RMB 34,000 (Php 229,659.80) This amount was remitted to the Philippine National Red Cross on   27 November 2009. 

 

Meanwhile, the Filipinos in Shanghai Bandminton Association and the Holy Spirit Choir of St. Francis also raised funds.

 

On 6 December over 700 Filipinos and foreigners in Shanghai got together to attend “Bayanihan sa Pasko”, a six-hour musical extravaganza featuring over 30  Filipino bands in Shanghai and Jiangsu, to raise funds for the victims of Typhoons “Ondoy, Pepeng, Ramil and Santi”.

 

Organized by the Filipino Community in Shanghai (FilComSha) and the Philippine Musicians Association of Shanghai (PMAS), the event raised RMB 121,883.00 (Php 806,865.46) which includes funds earlier raised by other groups.   The full amount was coursed through the ABS-CBN Foundation to be distributed to the typhoon victims in time for Christmas.

 

Michelle Teope-Shen, President, FilComSha of the Community said masaya tayo na makakapaghatid tayo ng PASKO sa mga pamilya at mga bata na nasalanta ng mga nakaraang bagyo. Masaya ang kalooban natin na nakatulong tayo rito mula sa Shanghai.”  Moises Sumile, President, PMAS,  commented, “Buong puso naming inihandong ang aming pagtugtug at pagkanta sa ating mga kababayan na nangangailangan ng tulong sa Pilipinas”.

 

Philippine Consul General to Shanghai Maria Rowena Mendoza Sanchez lauded and thanked everyone behind the success of event.  “Tunay na bayani ang ating mga kababayan dito sa Shanghai! Maraming salamat sa inyong walang patid na pagtulong sa ating mahal na Inang Bansa at sa ating mga kababayan sa Pilipinas. Mabuhay kayong lahat!”   END
